Marta Dominguez won't inaugurate a statue of her because she doesn't recognize herself
The Spanish athlete Marta Dominguez has advised that she won't go to the inauguration of a sculpture of her in Palencia because she believes it doesn't look like her and she isn't happy with the outcome of the monument.
The unsatisfactory work by the artist Luis Alonso, was installed yesterday illegally in front of the sports pavilion that has the name of the guest of honor and it must be removed within 24 hours.
The final installation, scheduled for Feb. 1, was delayed until there is an agreement between the sculptor and the athlete as she stated that she doesn't recognized the interpretation made of her figure.
This is a piece of bronze, life size, at the time in which Marta Dominguez crossed the finish line with his usual pink ribbon hanging on the right hand, the day she was proclaimed world champion 3,000 meters obstacles in the World Athletics Championships held in Berlin in 2009.
This tribute to the athlete was paralyzed in December 2010 at the outbreak of Operation Galgo against doping in sport, in which the runner was involved, and resumedagain in May 2011, once she has been exonerated of all doping charges.
